About this program

Massachusetts' redesigned solar incentive program provides performance-based incentives to solar system owners. SMART 3.0 launched with 900 MW capacity in Program Year 2025, followed by 600 MW in Program Year 2026. The program offers flat incentive rates for residential customers with enhanced rates for low-income households.

Eligibility requirements

  • Must be a Massachusetts electricity ratepayer
  • System must be connected to an eligible utility (National Grid, Eversource, or Unitil)
  • Must use a qualified SMART installer
  • Applications accepted on a capacity-block basis
  • Enhanced incentives for low-income households, canopy, landfill, and brownfield projects
  • Program Year 2026 accepting applications since January 1, 2026
